From June 1, 2008, according to a new law, shops and supermarkets are forbidden from offering free plastic bags to suatomers. The ban has brought about a heated discussion among the people.
The majority are in favor of it. They think it can reduce the use of plastic bags. Besides, the ban, in a way, can arouse the public awareness of environmental protection. In addition, it will help to improve the environment which we depend on.
However, others hold the opposite view. The reason is that the ban cause some inconvenience to shoppers. For instance, without plastic bags, people cannot take the thing bought in the shop or supermarket home or have no change to buy the environmentally friendly bags. They think there are solutions to solve the “white pollution” problem, such as finding out a way of breadking up the plastic bags.
Personally, I think it is necessary to introduce the new law. We can use cloth bags instead of plastic bags.
