There are hundreds of bacteria and viruses that cause diseases in the human body. To defend itself, the latter has to have an army of its own. This essay is a discussion of the body’s combat against viruses and bacteria.
However, it was not until the 17th and the 19th centuries that man discovered the existence of such a defensive army, namely, leukocytes. There is a signal detachment that finds the invaders and alarms by its signals the army’s other units to surround and fight against the invaders. The fighting units of the army include neutrophils, macrophages and lymphocytes, which have functions of their own in the cell battle.
Cancer cells are “traitors” from the cell army. They mislead the cell army and multiply in other parts of the body. That’s why cancers are the most terrible diseases.
The physical well-being /constitution is directly related to the immune system made of the three cell units. The success of the cell army largely depends on the signal units of the army.
To conclude, the cell war in the body is a very complicated one and man has a long way to go before the cell army can finally defeat its invaders such as bacteria and viruses.

In recent years, there has been a tendency to advocate the philosophical idea of adaptation to nature. Actually, it has been advocated by both ancient and foreign philosophers for many centuries. Its essence lies in man’s conformity to nature and the harmony between nature and man. This essay discusses this idea.
First, it means man has to face his death peacefully and naturally as death is part of one’s life process or nature. Prof. Morris and Mr. LU You-qing set us a good example of meeting their death calmly and philosophically and making their end of life successful and memorable.
Second, adaptation to nature means man’s complying with nature rather than changing nature at his will. Otherwise, nature will have its revenge on man with disasters such as desert storm and floods, etc.
Third, adaptation to nature means following the biological rhythm in life and work. If we can follow this rhythm, we can avoid many life-style related diseases. Some Japanese doctors even applied the idea to their clinical treatment of mental disorders.
In conclusion, adaptation to nature is an important idea that can help us understand life, health. If we can use in our healthcare, we will enjoy a better and healthy life.

With the reforming and opening up of Shanghai in recent years, more and more foreign doctors are employed are by more and more hospitals in Shanghai. These “foreign” doctors have brought many new ideas and changes to these hospitals. The most prominent one is “humanized /personalized medical treatment/ service/ care.
This change can be found in several aspects. First, the doctors’ sense of self-protection at work has been improved /enhanced/reinforced. For example, more sterilizing measures have been taken in clinical examination and service. Second, more consideration is given to patients in the humanized medical care. For example, patients after surgery are given pain-killing medication, which is quite unconventional/ new to many Chinese doctors. Third, doctors are more patient-oriented than before. Now doctors try to prescribe inexpensive but effective medicine for patients rather expensive ones. More emphasis is given to communication between doctors and patients instead of to impersonal instruments.
In brief, the influx of foreign doctors into hospitals in Shanghai have caused many pleasant changes to these hospitals and worthwhile learning.

The Medicine that Helps You Live to Be 120
All people long to live longer and want to grip the key to a long life. Now it is said that there is a medicine that can lengthen one’s life and help people live to be 120.
What is it then? Actually it is not a medicine but a healthy habit of eating: Don’t overeat or eat less than full. An experiment on 100 animals by some scientists has verified this assumption.
Why eating less than full can help people live longer? There are four reasons. First, less food relieves the stomach and testiness of heavy burden. Second, too much food in the body causes disorder in the human brain by hardening the cardiovascular vessels and thus causing dementia (imbecile). Third, eating one’s fill harms human cells and thus causes senility ahead of time. Lastly, habitual eating one’s fill causes obesity, thus resulting in arteriosclerosis, coronary heart diseases, diabetes, and even cancer. What’s more, ancient Chinese had some excellent theories and methods for eating less for health, from which, we can learn a lot.
To conclude, overeating is harmful to health. Don’t eat your fill and you can avoid many health problems and live to be 120.
